During my time in the journalism program at the University of Central Florida, I reported on stories across the UCF community, developing pre-reported pitches and collaborating with editors to determine the strongest storytelling approach for each piece. I pitched and wrote 32 published stories, using both written and visual storytelling to bring stories to life.
In Spring 2024, I served as the Men’s Basketball beat reporter, managing game previews and recaps alongside enterprise and profile stories on student-athletes. I also took on an editorial role during this semester in my capstone class, editing and approving stories within the student life category. In this position, I edited 48 stories, fact-checked all content, managed editorial budgets and deadlines and mentored reporters on storytelling strategies. I worked closely with a staff of 20 student journalists, strengthening my leadership, collaboration and newsroom management skills.
Part of my time at UCF was working on a semester long multimedia project. This story follows Elyse Mundelein who continues to inspire everyone around her and across the country with her story. Although I was in a group with two other students, I was heavily involved in the editing process as well as the written story that can be found here. This continues to be one of the projects I'm most proud of to this day.
Stories I covered for UCF Athletics, with a focus on UCF Men's Basketball.
